Acting swiftly after the article published in ‘The Hitavada’ titled “Open manholes, trenches cast dark clouds over city’s monsoon preparedness” on the Front Page of City Line on Monday, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) covered the open manholes and trenches near Balbharati building in Civil Lines and Ravi Nagar areas.
The Hitavada highlighted that how the open manholes caused threat to lives and how the administration is ignoring the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Courts order that safe roads, free from life-threatening hazards such as open manholes, are a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution.
When the onset of monsoon on door steps, the open manholes and trenches are causing serious threat to human as well as for stray animals. These days, the civic body is busy in cleaning storm water drains and rivers in the city to avoid any flood and water-logging like situation during monsoon. However, these open manholes are an open invitation to accidents as well. Such open manholes are exposing the monsoon prepardness of the civic body.
