Schools across Nagpur reopened on Tuesday after
the summer vacation, with the first day celebrated as ‘Pravesh Utsav’ (School Admission Festival). Students were welcomed with flowers, sweets, music and educational kits, creating a festive atmosphere on school campuses.
Teachers and parents shared the excitement as children returned to classrooms after an extended vacation. Many schools organised special welcome ceremonies, with teachers showering flower petals on students and greeting them with roses and sweets. While attendance was moderate on the opening day, regular classes are expected to begin from Wednesday.
Resmi Umesh, Principal of Saraswati Vidyalaya Primary School, said students returned with smiles and enthusiasm.
“We welcomed them with flowers at the school gate while music played in the background. The children were excited to meet their teachers and friends again.”
This year’s reopening was marked by confusion over the academic calendar. Initially, the State Government had scheduled schools to reopen on June 15, while Vidarbha schools were to resume on June 22. Following a directive from the High Court,
schools finally reopened on June 30. CBSE schools, which also faced uncertainty over reopening dates, resumed classes on Tuesday. NMC schools celebrate ‘Pravesh Utsav’ The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) celebrated the reopening in all its 112 schools—84 primary and 28 secondary schools—with a grand ‘Pravesh Utsav’. Around 13,912 students are enrolled in these schools.
The main function was held at PM Shri Sanjaynagar Hindi Primary and Secondary School near Kalamna Dipti Signal. NMC Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar welcomed students with roses and distributed textbooks and educational materials to kindergarten and Class V students.
Additional Commissioner Muruganantham, Education Committee Chairperson Santosh Devi Laddha, Taxation Committee Chairperson Sarita Kaware, corporators and senior education officials attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Itankar announced that as part of NMC’s Amrit Mahotsav year, all municipal schools would undergo a major transformation by the next academic session. He said the civic body would upgrade infrastructure, improve teaching quality and provide facilities comparable to private schools.
Dr Itankar added that efforts would be made to introduce sports, skill development programmes and foreign language education under the National Education Policy. NMC also plans to start English-medium and CBSE-pattern schools and develop school playgrounds through CSR funding.
Education Committee Chairperson Santosh Devi Laddha stressed the need to strengthen infrastructure, ensure safety and improve facilities for pre-primary students while continuing to focus on quality education.
To make the first day memorable, selfie points were set up at the PM Shri Sanjaynagar School, where students clicked photographs with civic officials and teachers, marking a cheerful beginning to the new academic year.
Maharashtra's Tribal Development Minister Dr Ashok Uike on Tuesday graced ‘Praveshotsav’ organised at the Government Ashram School in Belda village of Ramtek taluka. A message from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also conveyed to the students on the occasion.
Tribal Development Department Secretary Vijay Waghmare and Commissioner Leena Bansod participated in the programme through video conferencing, while Additional Commissioner Ayushi Singh, Project Officer Nitin Isokar, Assistant Project Officer Rahul Kakde, Headmaster Tapane and other officials were present.
