For better management of circulating area on popular western side at Nagpur Railway Station, Central Railway’s Nagpur Division is introducing access control system from Wednesday, to ensure that people prefer drop and go instead of staying put. Designed on the lines of the system in place at airport, the 12 minutes period is free for individuals and two, four-wheelers, while commercial vehicles would be charged Rs 50. Sr Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Aman Mittal said the system has been put in place to avoid crowding, as during the peak morning and evening hours, the circulating area gets jammed as people keep waiting for travellers. Beyond the free time, charges would apply, Rs 25 and 50 for parking upto 30 minutes for two and four-wheelers respectively and Rs 100 for commercial vehicles and beyond that the fees would increase to Rs 100, Rs 200 for two and four-wheelers.

As to parking, it is not allowed for commercial vehicles that are engaged in transport business in the circulating area. The Railway officials have limited parking in the circulating area for limited one hour only, beyond that the vehicle are liable to be towed. Beyond that, a fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed before the vehicle is released to owner. The circulating area has three lanes, of which two lanes would remain operational for citizens while one near the station building has been kept reserved for emergency and official use. The access controlled set-up is linked with fastag affixed on vehicles, which Mittal said would ensure automatic and transparent deduction of charges. The new system now ensures that even commercial vehicles like cab pickup, auto-rickshaw pickup can operate in front of porch. For further convenience of travellers, a dedicated pre-paid taxi booking kiosk will also be set up in front of the heritage building. If needed, dedicated parking for longer period is also available at the station campus.
