The victims received minor burn injuries in the attack
A 48-year-old man tried to burn three people alive, including two young women, by pouring petrol on them during a dispute at a house in Dhapewada village of Nagpur district. The victims escaped with minor injuries before they could have been totally engulfed in flames. Saoner Police have arrested the accused soon after the incident.
The incident took place at a house in Ward No 2, Bazar Chowk, Dhapewada.
According to Saoner Police, the accused, Raju Laxman Barbad (48), arrived at the residence of his relative Dhanraj Devnath Barbad (44). Police said the two had an old dispute, which allegedly led to the violent attack.
As per the complaint, two young women had come to Dhanraj’s house for work when the accused reached the spot. During the confrontation, Raju allegedly poured petrol on Dhanraj and both the women. He then allegedly tried to set them on fire with the intention of killing them.
Fortunately, the complainant and the two women managed to escape before the fire could cause serious harm. All three sustained minor burn injuries in the incident and received medical treatment.
“A preliminary investigation suggests that the accused acted because of a previous dispute with the complainant. He allegedly poured petrol on all three victims and attempted to burn them alive. Fortunately, they escaped with minor injuries,” a police officer said.
Soon after receiving information, Saoner Police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
The accused was traced and arrested within hours.
Based on Dhanraj Barbad’s complaint, Saoner Police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 109,
Contd from page 1 326(g), 351(3) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 37(1)(c) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
