Scattered rains bring relief to Jabalpurians, Nearly 40 districts across the State are still awaiting widespread rainfall
Staff Reporter :
Scattered rain since Monday night has brought the first major relief of the season for residents of Jabalpur. After several days of intense heat, the change in weather has brought down the temperature, although high humidity continues to cause discomfort. The city witnessed heavy rain between 11 pm and 12.30 am on Monday night. Light drizzle was reported early Tuesday morning, followed by intermittent showers during the day. Dark clouds remained over the city throughout the day, raising hopes of more rainfall in the coming days. Residents have been waiting for the arrival of the monsoon as Jabalpur is already running nearly 6 to 7 inches below its normal rainfall. The prolonged dry spell has also affected the city’s water sources. The water level in major reservoirs has dropped sharply, with Pariyat Reservoir nearing depletion. Due to the water shortage, the Municipal Corporation has reduced water supply to once a day in the Ranjhi area.
Residents claim that many localities are now receiving water only on alternate days. The improved weather has renewed hopes that the monsoon will soon become active over Jabalpur and ease the city's water crisis. Although the southwest monsoon has entered Madhya Pradesh, it is yet to become fully active across the State. Nearly 40 districts are still awaiting widespread rainfall. The delay has become a matter of concern for farmers, as adequate rain is essential for sowing kharif crops. Weather experts say monsoon activity is likely to strengthen over the next few days. Many districts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive rainfall, with some places likely to witness heavy showers. If the weather system strengthens further, most parts of the state could receive good rainfall, bringing down temperatures and providing relief from the heat.
