CG to shift academic

RAIPUR :

IN A major reform aimed at streamlining school education, the Chhattisgarh School Education Department has decided to shift the academic session for schools to an April 1-March 31 cycle from the 2027-28 academic year. The change will align the State’s academic calendar with that followed by most major education boards across the country. School Education Secretary Dr Kamal Preet Singh has issued directions to the Director of the Directorate of Public Instruction to initiate the necessary preparations for implementing the revised academic schedule.

At present, the academic session in Chhattisgarh runs from June 16 to April 30. Under the new system, the academic year will begin on April 1 and conclude on March 31 of the following year. The annual summer vacation will continue to be observed from May 1 to June 15, ensuring that students receive the same duration of holidays. The department has also instructed that all academic and student welfare initiatives be rolled out from the very first day of the new session. These include the Shala Pravesh Utsav, distribution of free textbooks, uniforms, bicycles under the Saraswati Cycle Yojana, and implementation of other student-centric schemes and activities. According to the State Government, synchronising the academic calendar with the April-March cycle will ensure the timely availability of textbooks, uniforms and other educational support at the start of the academic year. This will help eliminate delays in classroom learning, facilitate smoother implementation of welfare schemes and create a more organised and effective teaching-learning environment across government schools.
