After getting world class railways infrastructure at one of the city’s stations, the Rani Kamalapati railway station, commonly known as (RKMP), State capital’s other two stations are going for redevelopment with passenger-friendly facilities and handling passenger outward to a great extent in view of upcoming country’s mega religious congregation Simhastha. Since Bhopal Junction plays a crucial role in this religious journey of passengers as the holy event will take place at around 200 km from the State capital, but pilgrims use to converge from around the country and abroad as well. Bhopal Junction is located on the main Delhi-Chennai route which halts more than 150 trains daily. There is one track which connects Bhopal to the west with Ujjain Junction, Sehore, Shujalpur, Ratlam Junction and Ahmedabad Junction. ‘The Hitavada’, senior railway official said that they are well prepared for the said event and increasing their crowd handling capacity up to four times. Notably, there is an average footfall of around 70,000 passengers every day at this junction at present. Bhopal Railway Station comes under NSG-2 category (it has capacity to handle more than one crore and less than two crore). This station also serves as a connecting point for various pilgrims from Asia to visit the Stupa of Sanchi, an important Buddhist Stupa, which is about 40 kilometres (25 mile) from this station. Another station of capital is undergoing redevelopment. The West Central Railway has already declared Sant Hirdaram Nagar Railway Station a junction. Number of platforms have already been doubled here from just two it has now became four. Moreover, being a part of Amrit Bharat Station scheme it has new modern waiting and circulating area.
