The sub-adult tigress, which had killed two persons and had been elusive for last many days, was finally captured by the Forest Department on Friday.
The problem tigress was captured after an operation jointly conducted by the Forest Department and Transit Treatment Centre, Seminary Hills. As per information, the 3-year-old tigress is the
litter of F-2 tigress of Umred Paoni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary (UPKWS) which gained popularity among tourists in last couple of years.
The operation was carried out at Ruyal area which comes under Kuhi taluka of North Umred forest range. As per information, the tigress was frequently roaming around Ruyal area.
To monitor the movement of the big cat, the Forest Department installed camera traps and installed baits. After monitoring for many days, on Friday, the department got the chance to capture the tigress.
The tigress responsible for fatal attacks in Kuhi and Veltur areas of Nagpur district was successfully tranquillised and captured in a daring operation. The joint team followed
the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to capture the tigress. Before capturing the big cat, the Forest Department analysed the data captured in the camera trap in the jungle. It helped to identify the tigress and its behaviour. After capturing, the tigress was shifted to Transit Treatment Centre in Seminary Hills. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr Vinita Vyas, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur and Manoj Dhanvijay,

The team from TTC consists of Dr Priyal Chauragade, veterinarian; Atul Raut; Pratik Ghate; Bandu Mangar; Chetan Baraskar; Swapnil Bhure; Mahesh More; Khemraj Neware; and Omprakash Mangar.
