SOUTH Eastern Coalfields
Limited (SECL) has achieved a
significant milestone in the
Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating
assessment for the financial year
2024-25, with five of its coal mines
receiving the prestigious 5-Star
Rating, the highest recognition
for sustainable and responsible
mining practices.
The five mines awarded the
top rating are Bangwar
Underground Mine and Kheraha
Underground Mine in Sohagpur
Area, Behraband Underground
Mine in Johilla Area, Vijay West
Underground Mine in Hasdeo
Area, and Jagannathpur
Opencast Project in Bhatgaon
Area. Jagannathpur is the only
opencast mine of SECL to receive
the 5-Star Rating this year.
Overall, 45 SECL mines
secured a 3-Star rating or above,
including five mines with 5-Star,
19 mines with 4-Star and 21
mines with 3-Star ratings, reflecting the company's consistent
performance across key operational and sustainability parameters.
The Ministry's Star Rating
system evaluates coal mines on
multiple parameters, including
scientific and safe mining, environmental protection, land reclamation, adoption of modern
technology, workers' safety and
welfare, operational efficiency,
sustainable development, water
conservation and corporate
social responsibility. Mines
demonstrating excellence across
these parameters are awarded
the coveted 5-Star Rating.
Congratulating the workforce
on the achievement, SECL
Chairman and Managing
Director Harish Duhan said the
recognition reflects the collective
efforts of employees, officers and
stakeholders in promoting
responsible mining practices. He
reiterated that SECL remains
committed to ensuring safe, sustainable and environmentally
responsible mining while continuously improving operational
excellence through the adoption
of advanced technologies and
global best practices.
The latest recognition further reinforces SECL's position as one of Coal India's leading subsidiaries in implementing sustainable mining practices and maintaining high standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
