The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has taken strict action against two contractors for failing to start development works despite receiving work orders. The civic body has cancelled their contracts, forfeited their performance security deposits and barred them from undertaking future civic works.
Municipal Commissioner Ramprakash Ahirwar said the contract awarded to M/s Tanushree Construction for the construction of an M-30 cement concrete road from behind Saraswati Vidyalaya in Kanchan Vihar Colony in Ward No. 72 has been cancelled with immediate effect.
He informed that the work order for the road project was issued in May 2025. Despite repeated reminders through letters and telephone calls, the contractor failed to begin the work. Considering the delay in a project related to public convenience, the Municipal Corporation decided to terminate the contract.
The civic body has also forfeited the contractor’s Rs 25,000 performance security deposit. In addition, Tanushree Construction has been declared ineligible to participate in any Municipal Corporation construction work for the next one year.
In another action, the Municipal Corporation cancelled the contract awarded to Vijay Associates, a registered contractor, for development works in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ward under Division No. 6.
The project included the construction of a boundary wall and pathway at Vivekanand Garden
in Mother Teresa Nagar and Shri Ram Vatika Garden.
The work order was also issued in May 2025, but the contractor did not begin the work
even after the stipulated time had expired.
The Municipal Commissioner said repeated notices and telephonic reminders were issued to the contractor, but there was no response. As the delay
affected public convenience and hampered the development of the parks, the Municipal Corporation cancelled the agreement with immediate effect.
The civic body has forfeited the contractor’s performance security deposit of Rs 57,849 and blacklisted Vijay Associates from all departments of the Municipal Corporation.
Ahirwar said fresh tenders will now be invited to complete the pending works. He added that any financial loss incurred by the Municipal Corporation due to re-tendering will also be recovered from Tanushree Construction and Vijay Associates in accordance with the rules.
