TOP seed Deepak Gedam and Raju Deogade survived some anxious moments on opening day of the Sarojtai Memorial Nagpur District Carrom Tournament at Br Raja Bhau Khobragade Sabhagruh, Teka Naka, Kamptee Road, on Saturday. The two-day district championship is being hosted by Carrom Association, Nagpur. NKM’s Gedam was stretched to the limit by Rakesh Kanojiya of Navyuvak in the first game. However, the better rated player prevailed 24-22 at end of eight boards. Gedam was in full flow in the second game and wrapped up the match taking it 25-05. Om Club’s Kunal Bhunje 08-25, 25-08, 22-03 in three games. Earlier, the event was inaugurated at the hands of brother of late Sarojtai Mukesh Ambade and Corporator Gautam Ambade. Prize distribution of the tournament will be held at 7pm on Sunday at the hands of Nitin Raut, MLA, North Nagpur. Gautam Ambade and International Master Anup Deshmukh will grace the occasion. Manohar Wankhede, NK Buxy, Nishikant Meshram, Secretary, Carrom Association, Nagpur, Nawal Meshram, Vice-President will also attend the prize distribution function.
