CHHATTISGARH’S international weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav was selected in the India squad to represent the country in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games-2026 to be held in Glasgow, United Kingdom from July 23 to August 3. The women’s weightlifting team led by Mirabai Chanu Saikhom consists of Gyaneshwari Yadav, Sanjana, Seram Nirupana Devi, Harjinder Kaur, Martina Devi Maibam and Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam. Apart from seven women weightlifters, the 12 member team includes five men - Lovepreet Singh, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Rishikanta Chanambam, Raja Muthupandi and Dilbag Singh.
 
Gyaneshwari has excelled both at the national and internal championships bringing pride to the state and the country. Her selection for the Indian weightlifting team is a recognition of her dedication, hard work and consistent success in the sport of weightlifting. As part of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games-2026, the Indian weightlifting team will participate in an acclimatization training camp in Birmingham, United Kingdom from June 28 to July 22. After their preparations at the training camp, the team will finally compete at the Commonwealth Games. Chhattisgarh Olympic Association has welcomed the selection of Gyaneshwari Yadav in the Indian weightlifting team. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who is the President of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association congratulated Gyaneshwari for her selection and extended his best wishes for excellent performance.
