IRSHAD Ahmed of Rai Club won the men’s single title of Saroj Tai Ambade Memorial Nagpur District Carrom Tournament which was held at Br Rajabhau Khobragade Hall, Teka Naka, Kamptee Road, Nagpur. The tournament was conducted by Carrom Association, Nagpur.
In final match, first game was taken by US Open Carrom Championship winner Nikhil Lokhande of Janta Club 17-15. But ICF champion Irshad Ahmed bounced back when Nikhil was leading after completion of third board of second game with eight points but Irshad played offensive game and won second game 23-08.
The third game was anybody’s game which went into the penultimate board when the score was 20-18 but Irshad had a break advantage and clinched the title by 15-17, 23-08, 25-18.
The third place match between top seed Deepak Gedam of Naval Krida Mandal and Kunal Raut of Rai Club was a one-sided affair.
Gedam was just too good for Raut winning n straight games 25-07, 25-08.
After completion of men’s single final match, prizes were distributed at the hands of Anup Deshmukh, International Master & President of Carrom Association Nagpur, and Gautam Ambade, Corporator, NMC.
On this occasion M Wankhede (Chief Referee), NK Bakshi (Chief Referee), SM Narnavare (National Umpire), KV Rao (Treasurer), Sudhir Bamburde (Member), William Bendick (Member) and Nishikant Meshram (Secretary) Carrom Association, Nagpur were also present.
Cash prizes of Rs 6000, 4000, 3000 and 2000 respectively to top four players along with trophies were distributed. Cash prize of Rs 750 each was also presented to rankers from 5th to 8th.
Naval Meshram, Vice-President, Carrom Association, Nagpur conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
