In a major initiative to assist citizens and curb cyber-related crimes, Jabalpur Police recovered 139 lost mobile phones with an estimated value of around Rs 25 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners after tracing the devices through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, on Monday. The recovery drive was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay (IPS) and the guidance of Additional SP (Crime) Jitendra Singh. Speaking on the occasion, SP Sampat Upadhyay urged citizens to immediately report lost mobile phones at the nearest police station and register the complaint on the CEIR portal to improve the chances of recovery. He also appealed to people to remain vigilant against cyber frauds.

Citizens who become victims of online scams or notice suspicious cyber activities should immediately contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930), lodge a complaint through the CEIR portal, or contact the Jabalpur Cyber Cell Helpline at 7701050010. The Jabalpur Police also issued an advisory asking residents to follow basic cyber safety practices, including do not rely on investment tips shared by unknown individuals or groups on platforms such as Telegram or WhatsApp. Never download or install .apk files received through WhatsApp or other messaging applications from unknown sources. Do not share bank account details, OTPs, passwords, or other personal information with anyone, regardless of promises of commissions, investment returns, business opportunities, gaming rewards, or job offers. The police reiterated that cyber fraudsters often lure victims with false promises of easy money, employment, or business growth to obtain sensitive financial information. Citizens have been advised to stay alert and verify any suspicious communication before responding.
