Five-year-old honoured for planting over 1400 saplings

RUDRANSH Upadhyay, a five-year-old environmental enthusiast, was honoured by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his contribution to environmental conservation. Rudransh, originally from Varanasi and now living in Panchkula, was invited to participate in the Vriksh Mitra Programme in New Delhi, where he joined the minister in a plantation drive.
 
His father Gyanendra Upadhyay serves in the Indian Army. During the event, Rudransh said he has planted 1,455 saplings, of which 1,427 are surviving. Most of the plantations have been carried out in Panchkula, Chandigarh and Chandimandir Cantonment. He said he plants at least seven saplings every Sunday and regularly monitors their growth and maintenance.
