A man was killed and two women sustained critical injuries in a horrific accident involving three cars on the Saoner-Nagpur Highway, on Monday evening. The triple crash occurred around 7.45 pm near Kashmira Lawns at Dahegaon Rangari. The accident disrupted traffic on the busy highway for an hour. According to police, a Swift Dzire (MH-27/BE-6163) was travelling from Saoner towards Nagpur. The driver was attempting to take a U-turn near Kashmira Lawns when a blue Hyundai i20 (MH-20/BN-5079), coming from the opposite direction, approached the spot. An unidentified black four-wheeler was reportedly travelling behind the i20 car.

The police said the black vehicle crashed into the Swift Dzire while it was taking a U-turn. The impact pushed the Dzire into the path of the oncoming i20 car which resulted into a head-on collision. The i20 driver lost control after the impact and the car veered off the road before overturning nearly three times. Six people were travelling in the i20. The driver suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot. Of the three women in the car, two were critically injured and admitted to a hospital, while the third sustained minor injuries.

A two-month-old infant and a three-year-old child, who also were travelling in the vehicle, escaped with minor injuries and are undergoing treatment. The unidentified black vehicle zoomed from the spot immediately after the accident. While some eyewitnesses suspected it was a Mahindra Thar, police said the vehicle’s identity has not yet been confirmed. The Swift Dzire was also badly damaged in the collision with its front wheel burst. Hearing the loud impact, local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured before police and emergency teams arrived. The victims were shifted to a hospital. Traffic remained disrupted until the damaged vehicles were cleared from the highway. Khaparkheda Police reached the scene soon after receiving information, restored traffic movement and launched an investigation. Further investigation is in progress.
