More than two months after model and actress Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home on the night of May 12, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation is yet to issue her death certificate. According to the family, the civic body has withheld the document, demanding both post-mortem reports which have not yet been provided to them.
Twisha Sharma’s family has alleged that they have not received the detailed report of the first post-mortem examination, having only been provided a brief summary. The family had previously questioned the findings of this initial autopsy and successfully petitioned the court for a second examination to uncover the truth.
Taking cognisance of the family’s concerns, the High Court ordered a second post-mortem
examination while directing that the findings must not be made public. A specialised medical team from AIIMS Delhi subsequently conducted this second autopsy twelve days after her demise, after which her final rites were performed at Bhadbhada Ghat.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently probing the high-profile death, had also approached the court to gain access to the second post-mortem findings.
Recently, the AIIMS medical board submitted the sealed autopsy report directly to the federal investigating agency to aid their ongoing inquiry.
The victim’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, stated that the family has only been notified of the report’s submission but has not been given a copy. He has separately approached the court seeking the release of both the detailed first post-mortem report and the subsequent Delhi analysis.
Family counsel Ankur Pandey confirmed that the matter is scheduled for a crucial hearing on Tuesday, where AIIMS Bhopal and AIIMS Delhi are expected to present their official submissions. The lawyer emphasised that both detailed autopsy reports remain essential for the municipal corporation to process and issue the official death certificate.
