Ugli Sub-tehsil office’s Kotwar caught red-handed accepting Rs 1,500 bribe

Team of Lokayukta Police Jabalpur caught a Kotwar-cum-clerk red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 1,500 for settling the police case of appellant in his favour. The accused has been identified as Kamlesh Ganvir, posted as a Kotwar and currently working as a clerk at Sub-Tehsil Office, Ugli, Tehsil Keolari in Seoni district. Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta Jabalpur, Anjulata Patle informed that the complainant, Reena Thakre (34), wife of Gauri Shankar Thakre and a resident of Surekha Khurd village under Jevanara post in Keolari tehsil, had been involved in a dispute with her neighbour. Following the incident, Ugli Police registered a case against her and her family members under Sections 126(B) and 135(3) of BNS and the matter was forwarded to Sub-Tehsil Office at Ugli.
 
She contacted Kamlesh Ganvir at Sub-Tensil Office at Ugli who demanded Rs 3,000 from the complainant in exchange for settling the case in favour of her family. Distressed by the demand, Reena approached the Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Jabalpur and lodged a complaint. During verification, officials confirmed that the accused had demanded Rs 1,500 as part of the bribe amount. Based on the verification, a trap was laid on Monday, during which Ganvir was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe inside the Sub-Tehsil Office at Ugli. Lokayukta Police Jabalpur registered a case against the accused under Sections 7, 13(1)(b), and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) while further investigation is underway. The trap operation was led by Trap Laying Officer Inspector Rekha Prajapati, with Inspector Shashikala Marskole and the Lokayukta Jabalpur team.
