VMA’s ‘Bibliophile – From Pages to Profit’ highlights practical lessons for entrepreneurs
Business Reporter :
Reinforcing the idea that great businesses are built on great ideas, the Vidarbha Management Association (VMA) organised an engaging session titled ‘Bibliophile – From Pages to Profit’ at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, Nagpur on Sunday.
Bibliophile is one of VMA’s signature member engagement initiatives, designed to encourage continuous learning and knowledge sharing. The initiative offers members an opportunity to share valuable insights, stimulate meaningful discussions and inspire practical application of ideas in business and professional life. The session was moderated by Bhavna Chittawar, while Harish Patrikar served as the Month In-charge.
Opening the session, Asha Rai Badana presented insights from Deep Work by Cal Newport. She explained that deep work fosters strategic thinking, innovation, system design and continuous learning by encouraging focused, distraction-free effort. Contrasting it with “shallow work” —such as emails, meetings, chats and constant notifications - she highlighted Newport’s four principles: work deeply, embrace boredom, quit social media and drain the shallow.
Abhijeet Anand reviewed ‘Your Next Five Moves’ by Patrick Bet-David, stressing that strategy is what separates effort from results. He explained that successful leaders prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities instead of merely solving today’s problems.
Sharing practical financial insights from ‘Profit First by Mike Michalowicz’, Dr Aliakbbar Maimun explained the importance of managing business finances through dedicated accounts for profit, owner’s compensation, taxes and operating expenses.
He emphasised the principle “Sales – Profit = Expenses”, advocating disciplined cash allocation, periodic financial reviews and transparency as the foundation of a profitable and sustainable business. The concluding presentation by Sachin Jahagirdar focused on Build It by Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder of Blinkit. He traced the evolution of Blinkit from its Grofers days into one of India’s leading quick-commerce platforms, highlighting customer-centric innovation, speed of execution and learning from global benchmarks such as Amazon.
The event demonstrated how VMA's Bibliophile initiative continues to promote a culture of reading, learning and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
