Ward No 14 residents face administrative apathy

Despite the Municipal Council’s tall claims of constructing proper drainage systems and boasting about proper wastewater management across Barela town, the ground reality tells a completely different story. In several areas, dirty drain water is overflowing directly onto the roads, forcing residents to navigate through filth daily. This glaring failure is highly visible at Silgor Road in Ward Number 14 and near Kapil Patel’s Gali, where sewage water flows continuously along the road instead through the drains. Local residents and commuters are left with no choice but to walk through the filthy, stagnant water. Speaking on the issue, local resident Kapil Patel shared that even after repeated complaints about drainage issue with the Municipal Council and CM Helpline, no action has been taken so far.

The residents have been left with no choice but to stay in these unhealthy and unhygienic conditions every single day. It is reported that a sump well has been planned to be constructed at this location at an estimated cost of Rs 7 lakh to resolve the drainage issue permanently. While the tendering process for this project has already been completed, actual construction work is yet to begin. Residents allege that both the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) and the local Ward Councilor are showing a complete lack of interest in resolving this civic nightmare, leaving the citizens of Ward 14 to suffer the consequences. When questioned, the ward Corporator, Rajkumar Gontia shifted the blame onto the municipal administration, saying that despite repeated requests, the administration has failed to make any arrangements.
