Pursuing a major overhaul aimed at discouraging rote learning and promoting conceptual clarity, the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU), Jabalpur has officially modified its MBBS examination structure. The revised format, aligned with latest Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) guidelines, will be implemented starting with upcoming MBBS theory examinations scheduled for this September. The university administration has already released the official notification on its portal. According to MPMSU Controller of Examinations, the theory question paper will remain worth a total of 100 marks, but the structural distribution of questions has been heavily revamped into five categories. Previously, the 100-mark paper focused heavily on traditional long and short answers which comprised of 02 long answer questions of 20 marks each, 06 short answer questions of 5 marks each, 10 very short answer questions of 2 marks each and 10 multiple choice questions of 1 mark each.

The new paper structure is designed to evaluate clinical application, critical thinking and logical reasoning which comprises 10 Multiple Choice Questions (Scenario-based) of 01 each, 01 Long Answer Question (Structured) of 10 marks, 05 Short Answer Questions (Including 1 AETCOM-based) carrying 07 marks each, 05 Applied Questions (Clinical scenario-based) of 5 marks each and 05 Reasoning Questions (Logical reasoning) carrying 4 marks each. The university management confirmed that this revised evaluation standard applies with immediate effect to all CBME-regulated batches. This specifically impacts all medical students who took admission into the MBBS program in 2019 or later. As per Vice-chancellor, MPMSU, Dr Ashok Khandelwal, this amendment to the MBBS examination pattern has been executed to enhance the overall quality of medical education and bring utmost transparency to our examination system. All affiliated medical colleges and students are strongly advised to align their preparation strategies in accordance with this latest pattern.
