Forest officials in North Umred Forest Range have arrested a poacher with a carcass of a four-year-old Nilgai on wee hours of Wednesday. On the basis of a tip-off, a joint team of forest and police departments conducted a raid in Ooti beat of North Umred Forest Range comes under the jurisdiction of Nagpur forest division and arrested the poacher named Abhishek alias Abhishekhar Punaram Adole (38), a resident of Hewati Umred from the spot. While searching the area, the team also found a carcass of the Nilgai which was died due to gun shots. The poachers chopped off the carcass on the spot. The team recovered skin, limbs and meat of the Nilgai.

 

The team also seized a scooter (MH-40-DB-0042), a motorcycle (MH-40-DG-4771) and another motorcycle of without number plate from the spot. The team registered an FIR under relevant sections of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The police took the remand of the accused and investigating the involvement of other gang members. The post-mortem of the carcass took place under the supervision of Dr Pooja Hiwarkar, government veterinarian at Champa and samples were send to forensic laboratory for further investigation. The operation took place under the guidance of Dr Vinita Vyas, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur; and Manoj Dhanvijay, Assistant Conservator of Forest.
