BHILAI :
A tragic road accident in Durg district on Wednesday claimed the lives of four members of a family, including two women
and two young girls, while an eight-year-old boy sustained
critical injuries, after a scooter crashed into a stationary
tractor on National Highway-53 near Kumhari.
According to police, the scooter was being ridden by Amrit Nirmalkar (28), a resident of Bhilai-3, who was travelling
with four family members to visit their maternal uncle at Basant Vihar in Raipur. Preliminary investigations indicate that
the accident occurred while
the rider was attempting to overtake a truck.
During the manoeuvre, the scooter reportedly went out of control and crashed into a stationary tractor (CG 07 NA 0930) parked on the roadside and loaded with oxygen cylinders.
The impact was devastating, killing four occupants on the spot. The mishap occurred
around 10 am opposite Kharun Greens Colony at the highway. Police sources further informed that the deceased have been identified as Amrit Nirmalkar (28), Laxmi Nirmalkar (26), Yachna (7) and Dolly (4). Bhavesh (8) sustained grievous injuries and has been admitted to AIIMS Raipur, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police shifted the bodies to the Supela mortuary for post-mortem examination and informed the bereaved families. The tractor has been seized, while its driver, Bhola Yadav, has been detained for questioning. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events.
Chhawni Police Sub-Division CSP Prashant Paikara told The Hitavada that preliminary findings suggest the scooter rider lost control while attempting to overtake a vehicle at high speed before crashing into the stationary tractor. The impact was so severe that four occupants died instantly. He said Amrit Nirmalkar was the mother of Yachna and Bhavesh, while Laxmi Nirmalkar, Amrit’s sister, was the mother of Dolly. The family was on its way to Raipur when the tragic accident occurred. Appealing to motorists, CSP Paikara urged to strictly follow traffic regulations, avoid overspeeding and exercise caution while overtaking, stating that adherence to road safety norms is essential to protect both motorists and other unsuspecting commuters.
