Choudhary’s unsatisfactory reply pushes Cong MLAs to stage walkout

RAIPUR :

Congress MLAs staged a walkout in protest against the ‘unsatisfactory’ reply from Housing and Environment Minister O P Choudhary during the Question Hour in the House on the fourth day of the monsoon session of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, on Thursday. Former Chief Minister and Congress MLA Bhupesh Baghel raised the issue of alleged forged Gram Sabha resolutions concerning the establishment of industries in the villages of Alda and Deori-Ghulghul. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel demanded the State Government to take action against the guilty and cancel the land allotted to the companies. Bhupesh Baghel asked whether action would be taken against the Sarpanch and the Panchayat Secretary, and whether the land allotted to the companies ‘Balaji Sponge & Iron Limited’ and ‘Agrasen Steel & Power Private Limited’ would be cancelled. In his reply, Housing and Environment Minister O P Choudhary said that the Government stated that neither of these two companies had even applied to the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board for consent under the Water and Air Acts; consequently, the Board did not receive the Gram Sabha resolutions.

A three-member committee had investigated a complaint regarding the forgery of the resolution from Alda village. The investigation revealed that the Gram Sabha had unanimously passed a resolution not to issue a No Objection Certificate (NoC), whereas no one knows who wrote the final two lines in the proceedings register. Based on the investigation report, an FIR was registered against unknown accused persons on June 22, 2026, at the Tilda-Nevra police station under Section 318(4) of the BNS. The Central Government has not granted environmental clearance for the projects, the minister said. O P Choudhary stated that the police are conducting an investigation, and action will be taken against the guilty and the companies in accordance with the rules, based on the findings of the probe. Dissatisfied with the Minister’s reply, the Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the House.
