BIS conducts workshop on steel bars and wires

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Nagpur Branch Office, in association with ISNT Nagpur Chapter and Becquerel Industries Private Limited, Butibori, successfully organised a two-day capsule workshop on “High Strength Deformed Steel Bars and Wires for Concrete Reinforcement – IS 1786:2025” on July 16 and 17 at Seven Hotel, Nagpur. The workshop was organised for steel bar manufacturers, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, consultants, and industrial professionals from the Vidarbha region to create awareness about BIS certification procedures, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
 
The programme covered the complete BIS certification process, including product registration, licence application through the MANAK Online portal, online compliance, surveillance requirements, and the latest BIS guidelines for manufacturers. Special emphasis was laid on the advantages of BIS certification for MSMEs, small industries, startups, and entrepreneurs to enhance product quality, market acceptance, and consumer confidence. Ashish Urewar, Scientist & Joint Director, BIS Nagpur, delivered a comprehensive technical session on the topic explaining the provisions of IS 1786:2025, testing procedures, quality parameters, applications, and certification requirements. A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on practical demonstration conducted at the laboratory of Becquerel Industries Private Limited, Butibori, where participants observed the testing of high-strength deformed steel bars and wires as per IS 1786:2025. The practical session provided valuable insights into laboratory testing methods, quality control practices, and BIS compliance requirements.
 
Jeevan Ghime, Chairman, ISNT Nagpur Chapter, organised a live demonstration of various steel bar and wire samples during the workshop. He explained their technical specifications, identification, mechanical properties, and testing requirements in accordance with the course curriculum and the provisions of IS 1786:2025. The demonstration enabled participants to gain practical knowledge of different grades of reinforcement steel, their applications, and BIS quality requirements. The workshop received an excellent response from representatives of various industries across the Vidarbha region. Participants appreciated the initiative for enhancing their understanding of BIS certification, product quality, testing procedures, and standardization practices.
