Only 26 SIR verification in distt City constituencies lag behind rural areas

Staff Reporter :

Nearly 15 days after the Election Commission launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the exercise has made only modest progress in Nagpur district, with just 25.91 per cent of the electorate successfully verified and digitised as of 8 am on July 17. The latest official data shows a stark rural-urban divide, with rural Assembly segments racing ahead while all six city constituencies remain below the 20 per cent mark.

The digitisation process, the final stage of the SIR exercise, begins after Booth Level Officers (BLOs) physically verify voters and upload the information provided in the Enumeration Forms through the BLO application. Until this stage is completed, the verification process remains incomplete. According to the district status report, 4,610 BLOs have been deployed to verify and digitise the records of 46,38,589 electors. So far, 12,01,742 voters have been digitised, translating to an overall completion rate of 25.91 per cent. Among all 12 Assembly constituencies, Ramtek has emerged as the best performer, with 1,79,978 of its 2,90,865 electors digitised, achieving 61.88 per cent completion. Umred (SC) follows with 55.54 per cent, while Saoner and Kamthi have registered 39.48 per cent and 39.26 per cent completion respectively.

Katol has reached 37.93 per cent, while Hingna has recorded 27.45 per cent. Progress has been sluggish across the city. Nagpur South-West has performed relatively better than the other urban constituencies, with 67,242 of its 4,12,341 voters digitised, accounting for 16.31 per cent completion. It is followed by Nagpur East at 15.87 per cent and Nagpur Central at 14.67 per cent. The remaining three constituencies have recorded single-digit completion rates. Nagpur West has digitised 33,140 of its 3,99,371 electors, achieving 8.30 per cent completion, while Nagpur North (SC) has verified 36,924 of 4,52,837 voters, or 8.15 per cent. Slowest progress has been reported from Nagpur South, where only 28,493 out of 4,05,701 electors have been digitised, resulting in a completion rate of just 7.02 per cent, the lowest in the district. The report also shows that direct online participation by voters remains negligible. Only 7,403 Enumeration Forms have been submitted directly by electors, representing just 0.16 per cent of the district’s electorate, indicating that the drive continues to depend almost entirely on door-to-door verification by BLOs.

Admn appeals for citizens’ cooperation
Appealing to citizens to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Dr Rachna Indurkar, Deputy Election Officer, said that an accurate electoral roll forms the foundation of a healthy democracy. She urged voters to promptly fill their Enumeration Forms and cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the verification process to avoid inconvenience at a later stage. Reiterating the administration’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is left out, Dr Indurkar said every effort is being made to reach each elector in the district and complete the verification process within the stipulated timeframe.
