For most people, painful chapters are something they try to leave behind. For Munawar Faruqui, they became the foundation of his most personal stand-up special yet, Dhandho. Known for finding humour in everyday life, Munawar takes audiences somewhere much deeper this time. In Dhandho, he opens up about one of the most difficult periods of his life - the 37 days he spent in jail in 2021 - and the emotional aftermath that followed. Rather than revisiting the experience through anger or bitterness, Munawar chooses honesty. He speaks about fear, uncertainty, loneliness, and the struggle of rebuilding life when it feels like everything has been taken away. But true to who he is, he also finds moments of humour in the darkness, reminding audiences that sometimes laughter is the only thing that helps people get through their toughest days.

For Munawar, Dhandho isn't just another stand-up special. It's a personal tale of a period that changed him both personally and professionally. Instead of allowing that chapter to define him, he decided to tell the story on his own terms. Speaking about the special, Munawar said, "Those 37 days were supposed to end my journey as a comedian. Instead, they became the reason I wrote one of my most personal shows. I didn't make jokes about anyone else; I made myself the punchline because humour became my way of surviving. The chapter that brought me the biggest loss eventually gave me my biggest comeback. Sometimes, life doesn't change because circumstances do; it changes because you decide to own your story." With Dhandho, Munawar Faruqui isn't simply making people laugh - he's showing them that sometimes the stories that hurt the most are the ones worth telling. n
