Tops Maharashtra in action against mule accounts; earns praise during DGP review  
 
 
The Nagpur Rural Police have emerged as one of Maharashtra’s top-performing police units in tackling cybercrime and earned special appreciation during a statewide review meeting chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP) Sadanand Date on July 17. The recognition comes ahead of the upcoming PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) meeting to be chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Cybercrime prevention will be among the key focus areas of the meeting. Working under the guidance of Maharashtra Cyber, the Nagpur Rural Police have achieved remarkable results in investigating cyber fraud, recovery of money from cyber criminals, initiating action against mule bank account holders and strengthening cybercrime monitoring systems. The district has registered 31 cases against mule bank account holders - people whose bank accounts are used by cyber criminals to receive money obtained through online fraud.
 

CYBERCRIME PERFORMANANCE 
 
With this action, Nagpur Rural has recorded the highest number of action taken against mule accounts in Maharashtra. This put the police unit in the best-performing district in this category. In another major achievement, the Rural Police achieved second place in the state for recovery and refund of money to the cyber victims through legal procedures. The district also achieved 100 per cent compliance for removal of objectionable on-line content. An official said that suspicious and objectionable websites, URLs and online content flagged during cybercrime investigations were blocked or removed. Similarly, the Rural also performed exceptionally well on the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) platform.
 
This platform facilitates coordination among law enforcement agencies across states during cybercrime investigations. The district resolved 97.22 per cent of all notices and information requests received through the platform. This gives a traction to the police and placed it among the state’s top performers. The police unit have put focus on the capacity building and 535 police officers and personnel from the district have been given specialised cybercrime training under the Cyber Training initiative. This helps the police unit to secure the third-best ranking unit in State in this category. The district also recorded impressive performance in regularly updating details of accused persons on the Samanvay portal. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh A Poddar and Addl SP Anil Mhaske credited the achievements to the coordinated efforts of the district cyber team and police personnel.
