A 53-year-old tea vendor, Chetram Kirar, who was the sole breadwinner for his family, died on Wednesday morning at Hamidia Hospital after battling for his life for 11 days following an electrocution incident. Kirar, originally a resident of Obaidullaganj, had been living in Bhopal for the past 15 years and ran a popular tea and breakfast stall near Peer Gate.
On June 21 afternoon, while serving customers, he accidentally came into contact with a damaged, live wire connected to an electric stove kept near his stall, receiving a massive electric shock.
According to the Kotwali police, the impact of the high-voltage shock caused Kirar to lose his balance and fall violently from his stall. The fall resulted in a severe, life-threatening head injury as he struck the hard ground.
Eyewitnesses and nearby vendors rushed to his aid and immediately transported him to a local medical facility, from where he was subsequently referred to the state-run Hamidia Hospital for specialised emergency treatment.
CCTV captures shocking moment of accident: Investigating officers confirmed that the entire tragic accident was captured on local closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, which show Kirar collapsing instantly after receiving the shock. Following his demise, the Kotwali police registered an accidental death case and initiated a thorough investigation.
