CITY’S upcoming shuttler Sanvi Ghate secured first position in girls doubles U-15 and finished second best in singles event at the Yonex-Sunrise Jawaharlal Darda Memorial Maharashtra State 2nd Sub-Junior (U-15 and U-17) Badminton Tournament that concluded at Nehru Stadium, District Sports Complex, Yavatmal on Sunday. As many as 502 players with 803 entries participated in 10 events. Inthe U-15 girls singles Sanvi, who was thirdseed, beat Genica Rajput 15-10, 15-6 to being with win in the Round of 64. In the next round, she defeated Aditri Chaudhuri15-7, 15-8 and in Round of 16, she conquered Vishruti Namana 15-9, 15-4. It was for the first time in the quarter-finals that she lost a game.Afterlosing the first game, Sanvirallied back to get the better ofTejasvi Bhutada 10-15, 15- 10, 15-6.In the semi-final, Sanvi was all fired up and beat sixth seed Rudraniraje Nimbalkar 15- 13, 15-8. Sanvi was shocked by tenth seed Samanvaya Dhananjay in the final losing 11-15, 8-15. In the girls doubles run-up, top seeded pair of Sanvi and Pune’s Rudraniraje Nimbalkar defeated Dhani Zalavadiya and Ishanvi Kale 15-13, 15-11 in the Round of 16.

 

In the quarter-finals, Rudraniraje-Sanvilostaclose first game but bounced back to take the next two against Samanvaya Dhananjay and SwaraMorye.The scores read 12-15, 15-13, 15-8. In the last-four clash, RudranirajeandSanvibeatDruvi Kumbephalkar and Riddhi Khopkar 15-13, 15-13. In the all important final, Sanvi and Rudraniraje kept up their good workgetting rid of Imaan MotorwalaandRudraGawde15- 13, 15-11 in straight games.
