Raman Science Centre and Planetarium, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, celebrated International Moon Day with a series of educational programmes recently. The celebration commenced with the launch of the new Science on a Sphere programme titled ‘Moon - Our Celestial Neighbour’, offering visitors an understanding of the Moon’s formation, phases, surface features, and its significance in space exploration. A guided tour of the ‘India in Space’ Exhibition was conducted, highlighting India’s achievements in space science and technology.

 

Visitors experienced a special planetarium show dedicated to the Moon, which explored aspects of Earth’s natural satellite, lunar exploration, eclipses, and future human missions to the Moon. Moon Trivia Open House Quiz was organised where participants answered questions related to lunar science, astronomy, and space exploration. A specially designed Moon Selfie Point, featuring a Chandrayaan lander and lunar surface backdrop was the major highlight. The event promoted awareness about lunar science, astronomy, and India’s growing achievements in space exploration.
