The only Government Sports Complex in Chandur Bazar tehsil has been awaiting basic facilities for several years. Expressing anger over the poor condition of the complex, hundreds of youths marched to the Tehsil office and submitted a memorandum to the District Sports Officer through the Tehsildar, recently. They warned of launching an intense agitation if development works are not initiated immediately. Thousands of aspiring sportspersons from rural areas, youths preparing for police and military recruitment, students undergoing physical training for various Government competitive examinations and local citizens regularly use the sports complex.

 

However, due to the lack of essential facilities, players are facing several difficulties, the memorandum stated. The youths had earlier submitted memorandums after taking out marches to the Tehsil office in 2023 and 2025. However, no concrete action has been taken so far, leading to growing resentment among sportspersons. A fresh memorandum was once again submitted to the Amravati District Sports Officer through the Tehsildar. The memorandum highlighted that the existing 200 metre running track at the sports complex has deteriorated completely and demanded that it be upgraded into a 400 metre track. Other demands included a separate changing room for female players, clean drinking water, hygienic toilets, street lights, facilities for shot put and javelin throw and regular maintenance of the sports complex.

 

The youths also pointed out that the nearby garbage depot and fish selling centre have created foul smell and unhygienic conditions in the area, causing inconvenience to players during practice sessions. They demanded immediate shifting of both facilities to another location. The protesters further demanded that the overall development of the sports complex should be carried out through the local MLA development fund and other available government funds. Dhiraj Thorat, Director of Supervisor Academy, Tushar Gatfane, Director of Shaurya Physical Career Academy, Raut, Chief Mentor of Jijau Administrative Competitive Examination Academy, Shankar Pale, Co-mentor, Karan Khandare, Pratik Ingle, Sagar Thevle, Akshay Gawai, Rahul Damodar and hundreds of youths and citizens have participated in the protest.
