THE monsoon remained active over Jabalpur on Tuesday also as the city received another spell of rain in the evening. Heavy showers lashed several areas, while other localities received moderate rainfall. The fresh spell added to the rain received for the last two days and kept the weather pleasant. The showers brought relief from the humid conditions that had troubled residents during the recent dry spell. Cloudy skies prevailed for most of the day before rain started in the evening. Waterlogging was reported at a few low-lying places after the heavy downpour. The Weather Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Jabalpur and nearby districts over the next few days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places. Majholi in Sidhi district registered the highest rainfall in the State at 124.4 mm. It was closely followed by Sihaawal with 118.6 mm and Gairatganj in Raisen with 118.0 mm.

 

Heavy rainfall figures were also logged at Mauganj (109.0 mm), Udaipura (109.0 mm), Birsingpur (105.6 mm), Rajgarh (103.0 mm), Shamshabad (99.0 mm), Deori (96.3 mm), Harrai (94.2 mm), Churhat (86.0 mm), Kotma (80.0 mm), Hanumana (80.0 mm), Gadarwara (80.0 mm), Gyarapur (80.0 mm), Khurai (78.0 mm), Banda (74.0 mm), Panagar (73.2 mm), Deori in Raisen (72.1 mm), Beohari (71.0 mm), Chachoda (70.0 mm), Kumbhraj (70.0 mm), Nagode (70.0 mm). Along with the downpours, gusty winds hit speeds of 35 km/h in Sagar and 30 km/h in Indore. Lightning and thunderstorm activity accompanied rainfall across almost all divisions. The continued rainfall has led to a fall in the day temperature. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature settled at 29.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius. Although the monsoon had reached the region on time, Jabalpur experienced a prolonged break in rainfall for several days. The dry spell pushed up temperatures and humidity, causing discomfort to residents.

 

The recent showers have revived monsoon activity and improved weather conditions across the city. A spokesperson of the Weather Department said favourable weather systems are expected to keep the monsoon active over the region. If the present spell continues, it is likely to improve the seasonal rainfall position and help reduce the existing rain deficit. Residents and farmers are hoping for good and steady rainfall in the coming days.
