Relentless and incessant rain lashed Vidarbha in last 36 hours helped to cool down the weather throughout the region on Tuesday. With 62.3 mm rains, Nagpur witnessed the highest rainfall in last 36 hours in Vidarbha. In Nagpur city, the rain started on Monday late night around 11.30 pm and continued till late evening on Tuesday. It was the first widespread rainfall in city since the onset of southwest monsoon. Water-logging was reported at some places on Tuesday, however no water accumulation was reported in majority underpasses in the city except some, including Loha Pul. Constant rains helped to reduce maximum temperature in the city as it reported 26.4 degrees Celsius, 5.2 degrees Celsius drop in just 24 hours and 4.3 degrees Celsius below normal. In last 36 hours, Akola (31.8 mm), Amravati (37.2 mm), Bhandara (25 mm), Buldhana (11 mm), Bramhapuri (36.2 mm), Chandrapur (37 mm), Gadchiroli (42.4 mm), Gondia (13.8 mm), Wardha (17.8 mm), and Washim (34.2 mm) reported rains in double digit. Yavatmal received lowest 6.5 mm rains in last 36 hours. Due to rains in the region, majority of the districts witnessed maximum temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

 

Despite rains, Wardha was hottest place inVidarbha with 36.2 degrees Celsius. Bhandara (30.0 degrees Celsius), and Washim (32.0 degrees Celsius) also recorded the day temperature above 30.0 degrees mark. In Nagpur district, Mauda taluka received the highest 60.5 mm rains on Tuesday, followed by Ramtek (30.7 mm), Nagpur City (28.9 mm), Hingna (28.7 mm), Saoner (28 mm), Nagpur Rural (27.5 mm), Umred (27.2 mm), Bhiwapur (23.6 mm), Parseoni (22.1 mm), Kalmeshwar (21.2 mm), Katol (20.9 mm), Narkhed (19.9 mm), Kamptee (19.7 mm), and Kuhi (17.7 mm). In July, Nagpur district reported 152.5 mm of actual rainfall so far. However, the overall monsoon rains has severe backlog in whole Vidarbha as Nagpur district received 293.9 mm of actual rains with -25 per cent of deficit between June 1 to July 21. In a whole, Vidarbha is going through -31 per cent of rainfall deficit as Gadchiroli has the highest deficit with -48 per cent. India Meteorological Deparment (IMD) issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for all districts of Vidarbha on July 22 and 23 as heavy rainfall may take place in Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Gondia districts on both days.
