DURG:
FOUR days after the police
recovered the body of a 55-
year-old woman from the
bushes near Pulgaon nullah
flyover, two youths have
been arrested in connection
with her murder.
According to police, the
victim met the accused
identified as Harsh Yadav
(19), a resident of village
Pisegaon and 20-year-old
Nitesh Thakur of village
Chandkhuri near the Tahsil
office on July 16.
The trio then went to the
Pulgaon nullah area in an
e-rickshaw. Police said that
a heated argument broke
out between the victim and
the accused over a monetary dispute.
Enraged, the duo strangled her with a scarf and smashed
her head with a boulder, leading to her death. City
Superintendent of Police, Harishit Mehar confirmed that
the cause of death was severe head trauma resulting from
the boulder attack.
While the victim’s body was found in a
partially naked state, police stated that sexual assault
remains unconfirmed as the medical report has not been
received so far.
While addressing the media persons in Bhilai on Tuesday,
Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban) Sukhnandan
Rathore informed that the investigators tracked down and
identified the suspects by thoroughly scanning CCTV footage
from around 300 cameras installed in Pulgaon and its
adjoining regions. After committing the crime, the accused
returned to their respective homes where they hid their
blood-stained clothes. Although they initially attempted to
mislead investigators, they confessed to the crime after being
interrogated strictly.
