ADDITIONAL Chief Secretary (ACS) for Public Health and Medical Education, Ashok Barnwal will be the new Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. He will succeed the incumbent Chief Secretary, Anurag Jain, whom the Central Government has appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. In a significant administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) of the Government of India appointed Anurag Jain (IAS, MP cadre 89 batch) as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. This appointment was announced via an official notification issued on July 22, 2026, by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
 
Anurag Jain is a seasoned 1989- batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre who will now take charge of the country’s premier think tank. Official tenure, terms of new NITI Aayog CEO Appointment (2026) ACCORDING to the Government order, Anurag Jain’s appointment will be effective from the date he assumes the charge. His tenure is set for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The terms and conditions of his service will remain the same as those applicable to his predecessor. This decision has been taken with a view to ensuring administrative continuity and advancing the objectives of NITI Aayog. Notably tenure of Jain as Chief Secretary was over in August 2025, but a one year extension was already given to him.
