THE Chhattisgarh Cabinet on Wednesday approved the constitution of a five-member Cabinet sub-committee, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, to ensure the timely and uninterrupted availability of fertilisers to farmers during the Kharif and Rabi seasons. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mantralaya, Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. Briefing the mediapersons after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said that the sub-committee will monitor fertiliser supply, distribution and overall management, besides providing recommendations and guidance to the State Government on issues related to fertiliser availability. Sao, who also holds the Public Works, Public Health Engineering, Urban Administration and Development, and Sports and Youth Welfare portfolios, will chair the committee. Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ramvichar Netam, Cooperation Minister Kedar Kashyap and Finance Minister O P Choudhary will be its members, while the Agriculture Production Commissioner will be the convener. The committee will be empowered to invite officials of concerned departments, subject experts and representatives of other institutions whenever necessary.

 

In another major decision, the Cabinet approved the Reservation of Vacancies in Class III Posts of State Civil Services for Agniveer Soldiers of Chhattisgarh Rules, 2026. Under the new rules, eligible Agniveers will receive 10 per cent reservation in direct recruitment to Class III posts, including Police Constable in the Police Department, Forest Guard in the Forest and Climate Change Department, and Jail Warden in the Prison Department. The decision fulfils the announcement made by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in the State Legislative Assembly on July 26, 2024. The reservation will be available to Agniveers who have successfully completed four years of service in the Indian Armed Forces and have been discharged with a valid service certificate. The Cabinet observed that the move would not only expand employment opportunities for Agniveers after completion of their military service but also enable the Police, Forest and Prison departments to benefit from trained, disciplined and experienced personnel, thereby strengthening the State’s administrative and security framework, stated Sao.
