Police removed a group of protesters from Samvidhan Square late on Wednesday night after they refused to end their demonstration. Several youths, including girls, were detained during the action. Hundreds of youths had gathered at Samvidhan Square earlier in the day. They held a protest in support of the Cockroach Janta Party’s ongoing agitation in New Delhi over alleged NEET paper leak issue and activist Sonam Wangchuk. The protesters raised slogans against the Central Government. According to police, agitators had allowed the protest only up to 7 pm. However, they continued their demonstration even after the permitted time.

 

They remained at the venue till around 11 pm. Following directions from Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, police started clearing the protest site. Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy reached the spot with additional police personnel to supervise the operation. As police moved in, some protesters sang the National Anthem. Police continued the action and removed them from the venue. The protesters were detained and taken away in police vehicles to an undisclosed location. Speaking to reporters, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy said the organisers were given permission to hold the protest only till 7 pm. He said the protesters were repeatedly asked to leave, but they refused to do so.
