A 52-year-old woman and her 33-year-old son were found dead inside their flat in Mahal area. Police suspect they died by suicide after consuming poison. A suicide note and two bottles of poison were recovered from the house. The deceased have been identified as Abhaya Anant Khankhoje (52) and her son Advait Anant Khankhoje (33). They lived at Shri Guru Mauli Apartment under Kotwali Police Station limits.

According to police, neighbour Abhishek Vilasrao Kalamkar informed Kotwali Police around 9.30 pm that the flat had remained locked since morning and no one was responding from inside. After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot. They entered the flat and found the mother and son lying dead in the bedroom. During inspection, police recovered a suicide note, two bottles of poison and two mobile phones from the room. All the items were seized as evidence. Preliminary investigation revealed that both Abhaya and Advait were suffering from cancer. Police suspect they consumed poison due to depression caused by their illness. However, the exact reason behind their deaths will be known only after the investigation is completed, said police.

The bodies were sent to Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Police said the handwriting in the suicide note will be verified. They are also waiting for the post-mortem report and the chemical analyser’s report to confirm the exact cause of death. A case of accidental death has been registered at Kotwali Police Station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigations are underway.
