SEVERE monsoon activity swept across Madhya Pradesh, triggering heavy to very heavy downpours in several districts while causing a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures. Rains lashed most places in Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Rewa, Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions. Nasrullaganj recorded a massive 153 mm of rainfall, followed closely by Gairatganj with 135.4 mm and Seoni with 122.0 mm, while districts including Sehore, Katni, Mandsaur, Vidisha, and Ratlam registered heavy falls. Trough line, multiple synoptic systems driving wet spell: The intense spell has been fuelled by multiple active weather systems across the region. According to the meteorological department, the monsoon trough is currently passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, and Damoh before extending toward the Bay of Bengal. Additionally, an eastwest shear zone running across South Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and North Chhattisgarh, alongside an upper air cyclonic circulation hovering over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Northwest MP, continues to pull moisture into the state. On July 24, rainfall at most places will shift northward toward Sheopur, Gwalior, and Shivpuri, while central and eastern districts including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Jabalpur, Katni, and Umaria will continue to witness rain at many places.

 

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings will focus on isolated pockets such as Katni and Umaria. In the state capital Bhopal, the sky will remain generally cloudy with thunderstorms, lightning, and intermittent rain, with temperatures hovering around a maximum of 27°C and a minimum of 24°C. Rain intensity to recede across western MP from July 25 to 27: As the current weather systems gradually weaken and shift eastward, rainfall intensity is expected to taper off over the weekend. A gradual weakening trend will commence on July 25, with rain reduced to a few places across central regions (Bhopal, Ujjain, Sagar, Jabalpur) and isolated places in northern belts like Gwalior, Morena, and Bhind. Isolated heavy rain warnings will be limited to Shahdol. By July 26 and 27, heavy rainfall warnings will completely dissipate State-wide. Weather activity across all districts, from Indore and Bhopal to Rewa and Balaghat, will downgrade to light, scattered showers at a few or isolated places, accompanied only by routine thunderstorm and lightning watch alerts.
