The Maharashtra Government is going to release ‘Nagpur Tiger Declaration 2026’ on the occasion of International Tiger Day on July 29 during the International Tiger Conference at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur. As per sources, based on the recommendations made in various roundtable discussions, ‘Nagpur Tiger Declaration 2026’ will be prepared, and on the basis of this, the State’s tiger conservation policy will be framed. This Declaration will help the Government to outline the State’s vision and strategic roadmap for the next phase of tiger conservation, biodiversity management, and sustainable development. It will also help provide a recognition to Maharashtra at international level in tiger conservation and livelihood management of tiger reserves.

 

The Declaration will recommend to built four policy themes -- Community livelihood and green economy; Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investment in conservation; Maharashtra as a premier tiger tourism destination; and Human-tiger coexistence and landscape conservation. With six tiger reserves in the State, extensive tiger trails and a steadily increasing tiger population, Maharashtra is considered one of the leading tiger conservation states in the country. Keeping this in mind the State Government is planning to project Maharashtra’s success at global platform and the Declaration will help to frame policies not only for Maharashtra, but also for other states in the country, informed a senior forest officer, who is aware about the development, to ‘The Hitavada’.
