Active monsoon to
BHILAI :

ACTIVE monsoon conditions are expected to continue across Chhattisgarh over the next four days under the influence of a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The department has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places, with heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations. The IMD said light to moderate rainfall was recorded at a few places across the state during the past 24 hours, while isolated areas received heavy to very heavy rainfall. Basna recorded the highest rainfall at 15 cm, followed by Saraipali with 12 cm and Sonakhan with 7 cm. In Durg, the maximum temperature was 32.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees Celsius, close to normal. The district recorded 1.6 mm of rainfall by 5.30 pm.

Across the State, Pendra Road recorded both the highest maximum temperature at 33.2 degrees Celsius and the lowest minimum temperature at 22.6 degrees Celsius. The IMD said the active weather is being driven by a depression over the Bay of Bengal, the monsoon trough and an east-west shear zone across central India. Weather scientists at IMD Raipur have advised people to remain alert as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms may affect isolated places over next few days.
