A CONTAINER truck driver was injured after the vehicle plunged into a 10-foot-deep pit dug for a water tank as part of Metro bridge work in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Sunday morning, civic officials said. The incident occurred around 6 am near Chitalasar-Manpada police station on the city’s arterial Ghodbunder Road. The container was carrying about 25 tonnes of scrap tyres from Nhava Sheva to Gujarat when the driver lost control of the vehicle, Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.

“The container driver lost control over the steering, causing the heavy vehicle to crash into a nearly 10-foot pit dug for a water tank as part of the ongoing Metro bridge construction work. The driver got trapped inside the cabin,” Tadvi said.
