THE State of Chhattisgarh once again found a place in the national spotlight as Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Korba’s pioneering water conservation and groundwater recharge initiatives during the 136th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday. Referring to the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, the Prime Minister commended the innovative efforts being undertaken in Korba to conserve rainwater and replenish groundwater, describing them as an example worthy of emulation across the country. The recognition further reinforces Chhattisgarh’s growing profile as a State whose community-led development initiatives are finding mention at the highest national platform. Calling water conservation one of the country’s foremost priorities, Modi called upon citizens to transform it into a people’s movement. He emphasised that every drop of rainwater must be conserved through rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, revival of traditional water bodies and large-scale plantation drives. “Water is not merely a natural resource; it is the foundation of life, agriculture, environmental sustainability and the future of coming generations,” the Prime Minister said, appealing to people to actively participate in protecting and preserving water resources.

 

The Prime Minister began his address by paying tribute to the nation’s brave soldiers on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, saying their courage, valour and supreme sacrifice continue to inspire generations and strengthen the spirit of national service. Ahead of Independence Day, Modi called upon citizens to participate enthusiastically in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign by hoisting the National Flag with dignity and pride, describing it as a celebration of India’s unity, integrity and collective identity. Reiterating his ‘Vocal for Local’ appeal, the Prime Minister encouraged people to support indigenous products and traditional artisans. With Ganesh Chaturthi approaching, he urged devotees to opt for ecofriendly clay idols of Lord Ganesha, noting that the initiative would both protect water bodies from chemical pollution and provide livelihood opportunities to local potters and craftsmen. The Prime Minister also applauded the achievements of India’s youth in science, innovation, space technology and sports, observing that their talent, confidence and accomplishments reflect the aspirations of a rapidly emerging nation. The latest mention marks yet another occasion on which Chhattisgarh has featured prominently in Mann Ki Baat. In recent editions, the Prime Minister has highlighted the State’s rich archaeological heritage at Malhar, the Bastar Olympics, Bastar Pandum and now Korba’s water conservation model-bringing national attention to the State’s innovation, cultural heritage and community-driven development initiatives.
