RAIN activity is expected to increase across the State including Jabalpur as a depression over the Bay of Bengal and a western disturbance become active. The Weather Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Jabalpur and many other districts over the next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy rain has also been predicted in some parts of the State. Spokesman of Weather Department informed that monsoon trough has formed over Madhya Pradesh, making the rain system active once again. Light to moderate rain is likely across the State from Monday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast for Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Dindori, Mandla and Balaghat districts. During the next 48 hours, light to moderate rain is expected at many places including Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Raisen and over a dozen more districts.

 

It may be noted that a weak monsoon has resulted in below normal rainfall this July. After a good start to the season, rain activity almost came to a halt, leaving the month’s rainfall below average. Jabalpur normally receives the highest share of its annual rainfall in July. According to the rainfall records, the city has received 269.2 mm of rain so far this monsoon season. During the same period last year, Jabalpur had recorded 672.8 mm of rainfall. The large deficit highlights the weak monsoon this year and the need for widespread rainfall in the coming days. After a long dry spell, clouds started hovering over Jabalpur on Monday evening, raising hopes of rain. The hot and humid weather has troubled residents for the past several days. People are now eagerly waiting for showers to bring relief.
