BUILDERS across the city are in for a tough time ahead as Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule ordered freezing fresh registry of units in multi-storey buildings in case they have not complied with norms. As public representatives pointed out that Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is becoming beast of burden owing to violation of building construction norms, Bawankule ordered a fresh survey of properties in the city. The issue figured at the meeting of District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) held at Niyojan Bhavan on Monday, wherein it was mentioned that many a times, builders tend to violate norms and ensure that proper pipelines are laid for integrating waste discharged from the buildings into service lines. ravin Datke, Vikas Thakre, Abhijeet Wanjari along with Shivani Wakhre, Chairperson, NMC’s Standing Committee, complained about non-compliance with norms after receiving the occupancy certification (OC).

 

In a general observation, developers overlook the mandatory measures like having STPs, affixing fire fighting equipments and most importantly integrating the sewage pipelines in proper way. This leaves NMC bearing the trouble as often the sewage network in the areas gets clogged or in case of fires, the fire brigade faces hurdles in dousing the flames in high rises, the public representatives voiced. Taking a serious note of the issue, Bawankule ordered recheck of all OCs that have been issued to new buildings despite flagging of lapses during the inspection. All such OCs must be rechecked and directed submission of preliminary report within one week. Till then he directed Sub Registrar to stop registry. Legislators Mohan Mate, Krishna Khopde, Prof Sanjay Bhende, Dr Rajiv Potdar, Sudhakar Adbale, Mayor Neeta Thakre, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, NIT Commissioner Sanjay Meena, and others were also present at the meeting.
