THE monsoon regained strength
over Jabalpur on Tuesday
evening, bringing much awaited rain to the city. Thick black
clouds covered the sky during
the evening and several areas
received light to moderate showers. The change in weather
brought relief from the hot and
humid conditions that had prevailed over the past few days.
However, the light to moderate rainfall also led to waterlogging in several parts of city. Water
accumulated on many roads and
low lying areas, slowing traffic and
causing inconvenience to commuters.
Spokesman of local weather
department informed that rain
activity is expected to continue
over the next few days. The
Weather Department has issued
a forecast of light to moderate
rainfall in Jabalpur and surrounding areas.
The revival is
linked to an active low-pressure
system over the Bay of Bengal and
favourable monsoon conditions
over Madhya Pradesh.
The spokesman further said
that the monsoon system has
become active once again,
increasing the chances of widespread rainfall across the State.
Moderate rain is likely at many
places including Jabalpur, while
some districts may receive heavy
rainfall.
On Tuesday, even the light to
moderate rainfall led to waterlogging in several parts on
Tuesday evening. Many roads
and low-lying areas waterlogged,
hindered traffic movement and
caused inconvenience to commuters. Pedestrians also faced
difficulty as water accumulated
on several routes for some time.
The situation once again highlighted the city’s recurring
drainage problems during the
monsoon.
Anyway, the fresh spell of rain
over the coming days could help
reduce the rainfall deficit.
