The heavy rainfall witnessed on Tuesday turned the city into ponds, leaving scores of two-wheelers and four-wheelers submerged and their owners zoning out thinking about the hefty repair bills. As rainwater rapidly accumulated in low-lying areas, motorcycles, scooters, and cars were trapped in waist-deep water. Many vehicles stalled after water entered engines, forcing owners to abandon them until the water receded. Several two-wheelers toppled over, while parked cars remained partially submerged for hours. For many commuters, the struggle did not end with reaching home safely.

 

The real challenge began when they attempted to restart their vehicles, only to find engines locked, batteries damaged, and electrical systems malfunctioning. Repairs for water-damaged engines, electronic components, brakes, and wiring can run into thousands of rupees. Those without comprehensive insurance are likely to bear the entire expense themselves. Many two-wheelers were seen submerged in water near Padole Hospital, Trimurti Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar and many other areas. Similarly, almost a seven feet Mahindra Thar was seen underneath the waterlogged area near Narendra Nagar fly-over. Vehicle owners expressed frustration.

 

“My two-wheeler stopped mid rain and I was submerged in the water-logged area near Shankar Nagar. I tried starting my vehicle but it was all in vain,” lamented Vishal Dabir, a commuter. He further mentioned that the water damaged the silencer along with the side stand hitting a stone underneath the water. “My tyre was punctured along with it the battery of the vehicle was also damaged, it cost me thousands of rupees to change the battery,” expressed another commuter. Several people were left stranded after their vehicles broke down in flooded areas. Some had to push their two-wheelers through waterlogged roads, while others waited for towing assistance as their cars refused to move. With more rain forecast in the coming days, residents fear the situation could worsen.
