THE Food Safety Administration seized approximately 938 kilograms of suspected adulterated desi ghee during a raid at an establishment in Panchvati Colony, Karond, as part of its ongoing campaign against food adulteration. Acting on a tip-off, officials searched the premises of Prosperity Tech and recovered ghee packed under the labels of well-known brands. The seized stock, weighing nearly one tonne and valued at around Rs 550,000, was sealed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, on suspicion of adulteration. Officials said that the ghee was recovered from the premises of trader Suraj Pandey in multiple package sizes, including 15 kg, 5 kg, 1 kg, 500 g and 200 g, bearing the names of Govardhan, Dholpur Fresh and Amul.

 

The quantity and packaging raised concerns over possible misuse of branded labels and the authenticity of the products. During the inspection, the enforcement team found that the establishment was allegedly operating without the mandatory food licence required under the Food Safety and Standards Act. No valid licence was available or displayed at the premises. Authorities have initiated separate legal proceedings for operating a food business without the required authorisation. Food Safety officials collected samples of the suspected ghee and sent them to the State Food Testing Laboratory for scientific analysis. Authorities said that if the laboratory report confirms adulteration or failure to meet prescribed quality standards, stringent legal action will be taken against the trader in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.
