A MAJOR tragedy was averted on Thursday after the Narayanpur Police, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the District Flood Rescue Team successfully rescued 16 villagers stranded in floodwaters at Chikpal village under Dhaurai Police Station limits. Following incessant heavy rainfall, the water level rose sharply, inundating parts of the village and trapping 16 residents, including seven children, three women and six men. Acting promptly on receiving the information, the district administration launched a coordinated rescue operation. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Sub-Divisional Officer (Police), Chhotedongar Manoj Mandavi and led by Dhaurai Station House Officer Inspector Piyush Katiyar.

 

Teams of Narayanpur Police, the ITBP’s 45th Battalion (Kadenar) and the District Flood Rescue Team braved adverse weather conditions to reach the affected area and safely evacuate all the stranded villagers. The timely response, courage and seamless coordination of the rescue teams ensured that all 16 villagers were brought to safety without any loss of life. The rescued villagers were subsequently shifted to a safe location and provided with the necessary assistance. The Narayanpur Police have appealed to the public to avoid crossing rivers, streams and waterlogged roads during heavy rainfall and to immediately inform the police or the district administration in case of any emergency so that timely assistance can be provided.
